Governor Thompson State Park
Description
Governor Thompson State Park is located in the Peshtigo River State Forest and provides the surrounding communities with 2,800 acres of woods, campground, picnic and beach areas, hiking and skiing trails, fishing and more. While originally a day-only park, the project expanded recreational opportunities consisting of a new 2,800 square foot visitor center and offices, 6,200 square foot maintenance garage, toilet vault, and addition of 50 campsites.
The buildings complement the rustic, natural environment and are constructed with sustainable features for energy conservation. The visitors center has a geothermal heating system, while the maintenance garage utilizes a wood pellet boiler system for heating. All buildings have energy efficient lighting systems complemented by natural day lighting. The family campground is served by picnic areas, vault toilets, and drinking fountains. Between the campground loops is the shower/toilet building and sanitary dump station.
